The Balvenie Eighty-Eight x Daniel Arsham

Overview

The Eighty-Eight Year Old is the oldest single malt Scotch whisky ever released for sale, and the oldest whisky The Balvenie has ever produced. Created by Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie and artist Daniel Arsham, its sculptural presentation gives physical form to the decades of human endeavour held within the liquid. It sits at the heart of The Balvenie’s 1931 Collection, where craft in motion connects whisky, artistry and the passage of time.

The Eighty-Eight Year Old was unveiled at its Speyside home before the final product was complete. We worked alongside The Balvenie’s brand experience team to create a film for the press launch, giving presence to a whisky that could not yet be experienced in its final form.

Inside the atmospheric setting of Warehouse 24, the film played as a holographic projection, appearing to float within the space itself. Art-directed CGI and archival footage brought together the tactile processes of the distillery, its history and Arsham’s sculptural interpretation. Sound design by Here Design wove foley recorded across The Balvenie estate into the original score, so the sounds of the place itself became part of the story.

The film set the tone for the first reveal, adding depth and atmosphere to a press experience built around rarity, craft and provenance. The response was global, with interest from UHNW audiences far exceeding the 17 bottles available. Beyond the oldest expression, the story opened the door to a new generation of The Balvenie, and the contemporary 12 and 15 Year Old expressions drew attention in their own right.
